What verification means on Peddro
Peddro uses verification to help build trust between pet owners and dog sitters. We want to be transparent about what each verification level means—and, just as importantly, what it does not mean. Verification is one tool among many that owners can use when choosing a sitter, but it is not a guarantee of safety or quality of care.
Identity verification
Currently, Peddro offers government ID verification. The process works as follows:
The sitter uploads a selfie along with a government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license or passport).
Peddro’s team reviews the submission manually, comparing the photo ID to the sitter’s profile information.
If approved, a “Verified” badge appears on the sitter’s public profile.
This confirms the sitter has provided a government ID that matches the name and photo on their Peddro profile. It does not confirm any other aspect of the sitter’s background or qualifications.
Reference reviews
Before appearing in search results, sitters must collect at least 3 verified references from people who know them personally or professionally. The reference process works as follows:
The sitter invites references through Peddro’s platform.
Each reviewer verifies their email address before submitting a reference.
Approved references appear as “References” on the sitter’s profile.
This confirms that at least 3 real people have vouched for the sitter. References are self-selected by the sitter and are not independently investigated by Peddro.
What badges mean
Verified badge
Government ID has been reviewed and approved by Peddro. This means the sitter submitted a valid, government-issued photo ID that matches their profile name and photo. It does not indicate a background check has been performed.
References badge
Three or more verified personal references have been collected. This means at least 3 real people, each with a verified email address, have submitted a reference for the sitter through Peddro’s platform.
Background checks
Currently, Peddro does not perform criminal background checks.
We are evaluating third-party background check providers (such as Checkr) and plan to offer background checks in the future. When available, background checks will be clearly indicated with a separate, distinct badge on sitter profiles.
Until then, the “Verified” badge means identity verification only—it does not indicate that a criminal background check has been performed.
What verification does NOT mean
This is important to understand. Verification on Peddro does not guarantee:
Future conduct — Verification reflects a point-in-time check. It does not predict or guarantee how a sitter will behave in the future.
Suitability for your specific pet — Every dog has unique needs. A verified sitter may not be the right fit for your pet’s temperament, medical conditions, or care requirements.
Quality of care — Verifi
